  • Some of the energy of the bullet impact transfers through the class ball and concentrates to the end of the ball making it look like there was a secondary impact. I think that’s what happened

  • ok ik how it works imagine that ball is made of jello or something slightly stronger than jello, basically if you were to shoot at jello it would push jello around it but also some would stay on the front of the bullet flying outside the orb of jello with the bullet basically since the bullets aren't going completely through it it's only pushing the material slightly so it's not enough to crack everything along the way but it is enough to cause visual damage on the opposite end although there aren't cracks in the middle there is slight stress and with enough firepower it will pop and shatter completely, but this video definitely proves just how durable those things are

  • It reminds me of if a huge asteroid hits earth. If it’s big enough the shockwave travels thru and around the sphere of earth and can have similar damages to the opposite side. Maybe cuz it’s a sphere the shockwave travels similarly? I donno I really have no idea

    andrew sampsonandrew sampson3 klukkustundum síðan
  • The way that physics works is that when you shot the glass the bullet hits the glass and transfers the momentum through the glass until the momentum Is either stopped or there is a end to the object in this case there was a end to the object and the momentum has to stop somewhere so when the momentum reached the end of the glass it ran into the glass breaking it this happened because the glass could not handle the the momentum that was transferred the the initial shot

  • What is happening with the chip on the back is that the shockwave is traveling around the sphere and meeting at the furthest point where it re-combines its energy. But since there is no where for it to go it breaks the glass.

    Evоlutor BgEvоlutor Bg5 klukkustundum síðan
  • The answer to how the other side cracks is because when a bullet hits the ball. The glass has internal stresses and the bullet has inertia so it pushes the glass in its way exerting force to the other side causing the other side to crack from the inside out

  • I believe it’s sending vibrations around the surface of the glass and when they come together on the opposite side it’s causing that secondary damage. Glass does some really crazy stuff. I’ve worked with it for over a decade and it never ceases to fascinate me.

  • You're sneezing likely from microscopic silica shards. Which is very not good to get into your lungs. That's why they cut concrete with water to catch the dust.

    Ken ThompsonKen Thompson5 klukkustundum síðan
  • So the reason why it was cracking in the back is because the power of the bullet was so great that it shot a shock wave throw the glass rupturing the other side. It sends it in a way like a ring around it and when the ring closes it ruptures

    joshua hjoshua h5 klukkustundum síðan
  • I'm thinking, since glass is a liquid, and a solid that the Shockwaves travel through the glass and blows out the back. Kinda like tripping a small fire cracker in a bucket of water.

  • My theory on none impact side is as the vibrations and energy from the bullet as its dispersed it travels the path of least resistance going around the outside and as the energy comes around the back side it meets back up with its self (energy from the left side and top meet the energy from the right side and the bottom) the colon of energy causes damage to the none impact side

  • As the shockwave propagates across the glass it is dispersed across a greater area which causes less damage. But as the shockwave reaches the backside it is concentrated in a smaller area causing more damage. That's why you see the damaged glass on the exact opposite side from the initial impact.

    Thomas BrandThomas Brand6 klukkustundum síðan
  • I'm not sure of the science but my best guess would be maybe maybe Shockwave from the bullet impact travels all the way through the ball and that's the exit point of its Shockwave. Due to it being a somewhat small point it causes it to crack? Just my assumption

  • The reason there is a crack in the back of the ball when the impact is on the front has a lot to do with hydro-dynamics since glass is a liquid. Basically the shock-waves which transfer around the outside skin of glass and converge in the back where you see the damage.

    Josh SpontakJosh Spontak9 klukkustundum síðan
  • You cant assume all the damage is because of the bigger guns. The internal integrity of the glass is compromised. If you really wanted to test this, you would need to use a new ball each time. The shockwaves travel through the glass. Just like when you get in an accident in your car. I got lightly hit at a light once because the woman behind me was on her cell and when one car turned on red and the rest of us pulled up one spot, she thought I was going and she hit me. It knocked a fog light out in the front of the car because the shockwaves broke the plastic clip.
