  • To say they're exporting an American franchise model is a touch oversimplistic - make no mistake, tiers of haves and have-nots are every bit a reality in sports whether or not pro-rel is a thing, and the owners of those 'have' teams in franchise leagues would love nothing more than to remove the dead weight regardless of format. What the SL is trying to do is cut the have-nots out entirely, and what I find alarming is what blowback implications that kind of slippery slope could have in North American leagues if it gains traction.

You don't talk about a deal worth £10 billion without seeking a legal opinion on the consequences. All the threats of expulsions and bans are toothless. The champions league is an invite only competition. Hence you can refuse the invitation.

      Mark KofiMark Kofi18 dögum síðan
  • Kick the 6 out or relegate them, the remaining 14 teams have to be stong and together. Promote more teams from the championship.. The league will continue and the so called top 6 will be replaced and forgotten about.

Then I'm sure they have the power to stop a group of foreign mercenaries dead in there tracks from ripping the heart out of our national game of course the government has the power to stop this! • The thing I don't understand is if this was so planned why did man city pay millions in lawyer's to overturn the decision to ban them from the champions league if they were not going to be in it any way. And also how can it be a European super league with 6 English teams when England aren't part of Europe

    kyriacandrokyriacandro18 dögum síðan
  • Theres literally only one way this can stop and that's if players and managers strike. If theres no world class players in the super league it wont be able to go ahead. This is down to the players !!! The fact there quiet speaks volumes about there morals. Absolutly disgusting from players in the top six

    ryan wigglesryan wiggles18 dögum síðan
    • Be great if they striked or took a stand and maybe they will, but Jesus...They've barely had a day for this monster news to sink in nevermind organise a strategy or best plan of attack and executed it. Calling out their morals and saying its disgusting that players haven't reacted already is just ridiculous.

  • I think it’s a bit early to give up yet! I think given gov and regulators plus fans this won’t happen. I don’t think the club should be punished just the owners as otherwise the fans just suffer for no reason. I think it won’t happen with protest and there needs to be a rule change on owners and a legally empowered regulator. Jay loves to make doom laden statements as if it’s all inevitable but really it’s just a council of despair. Mark is also wrong to say united should be out of the league that is a sledge hammer to crack a nut target the owners

    Philip BurtonwoodPhilip Burtonwood18 dögum síðan
  • Most of the teams in the Super Club will become superior to teams not involved, as they will attract the best players, who would want to compete against the world's elite. Wages and transfers are going over the roof to pay for the best players.

  • This was always in the cards from the moment the competition changed from being the European Cup and became the Champions League and teams from 1st to 4th qualified. I love the club and don’t want this to happen but you need to check back at your reactions / comments when United falter. Throwing more and more foreign investment at the game wasn’t going to end well. Fight it by all means but sentimentality makes us all wear red tinted glasses. Our sudden love for Burnley, or any of the little clubs is well timed.

  • Use your logic, what is more famous soccer or Basketball and American Football in this world? The answer is soccer. But why NBA players and NFL players avarege are paid more than soccer players? I give you example: For many years Champions League is running by UEFA. Clubs invest in players and pay they salaries, but it has been UEFA that got more profit than clubs just because UEFA is the ruler. It is a time a clubs have their own competition that running by them like NBA or NFL.

They are gonna partner with the creative industry (arts:music, film making etc) biggest in the world. BIG musicians from every part of the world are gonna perform in these big games and guess what, millions of their fans who probably know nothing about football, will pay big bucks to watch them.
