With the return of The Mandalorian season 2 to Disney+, I felt it was about time to also return to a Star Wars theory. In a previous theory, I talked about how the Jedi could be construed as an 'evil' order. Today, I'm taking that kind of idea and flipping it to talk about the Empire itself! I think The Mandalorian provides us with even more clues that the Empire may not be as wrong in it's philosophy as we thought! How? Why? Well Theorists, make sure you Baby Yoda is somewhere safe because this is about to take a turn to the dark side...

  • Sorry, there’s a little thing called the great peace where the republic and Jedi order kept the galaxy free of large scale conflict for 1000 years. Only when your “peaceful palps” came along and master minded a galactic civil war, in order to enslave half the galaxy and indoctrinate the others did the wars in Star Wars start.

  • I mean yeah and no, right? There’s some wrongs done that can’t or wouldn’t be justified in our world. But the sith and Jedi are the forces of good and evil which goes way back in this universe. Also emotional detachment was or is “necessary” to become a Jedi. Even though you’re right due to the fact that no one really turns out the same way, I feel like anakin was a special case in becoming unstable Impulsive Etcetera they were so focused on the then and there they forgot about what and how to make the future they were supposed to be fighting for better. You have to admit some sith and actions associated with the empire are just outright evil. -matpat😑

  • The biggest problem with this analysis is that palpatine actively made life worse for non-humans or “passing” humanoids; slavery was a drastically increased institution, it became by and large illegal for non-humans to have any kind of high rank in government, genocide happened a lot. I mean, to be fair, the republic just kinda let slavery happen and never stopped it. But palpatine actively sought out an expansion of slavery and the destruction of several star systems worth of people. I think MatPat’s point only stands if you look at the everyday life of humans only. Taking a galactic look, the empire was way worse

  • Fun fact: politicians pushing an agenda do not always tell the full truth. Case in point, what were the differences in Tatooine between the first time Padme arrived and just before Jabba's death? Also heavy authoritarian regimes tend to make local self-governance difficult once the regime falls (and they always fall). Those that are capable of leading locally either take their cue from the higher ups (like the moffs) or they are removed from the scene so unable to keep things orderly and improve.

  • I ask the question: do they even need a big government?, I mean, that’s why we have countries: different people with different interests in located landmass that are locally ruled, I mean, the galaxy is so big, that it’s very probable that if you divide it by chunks, big enough so every chunk contains all kinds of resources, with trading being optional, that could work, unless the galaxy is old enough so the heaviest elements are down to the core, but that doesn’t make sense since the outer rim is what is exploited, and not the core.

  • Patrick, you must understand that the Empire did not care about order, but about power. The fact is that even if the Republic, Jedi, whatever, had their own problems, they were not inherently evil and actually wanted to help people. The Empire only wanted to help themselves. And by the way, the destruction of Alderaan drove hundreds and hundreds of people to join the Rebellion, because this own act spelled out the Empire's true intentions pretty clearly to them.

  • I swear I comment after almost every viewing. The destruction of Alderaan wasn't a decision of the Empire, or even the Emperor, just Tarkin. The emperor gave Tarkin authorization to destroy a planet, but one nobody cared about, not Alderaan. That kind of justifies Alderaan, the gunners would be punished for not firing, and everything was Tarkin's fault. It's EU, but I don't care, it is my head canon.
