NEVER TOO SMALL 35sqm/376sqft Two Bedroom Tiny Apartment- Riviera Cabin

20 jan 2021
535 143 Áhorf

Inspired by the tightly designed interiors of sailing boats, llabb architecture converted this 70’s open plan studio apartment into a two bedroom home without expanding its 35sqm footprint. By creating a multi-functional storage unit on the rear wall, llabb was able to compartmentalise the apartment and embed 2 concealed bedrooms stacked on top of each other; while a long wooden strip creates a distinct ‘waterline’ that leads the eye into the living space. Still maintaining a fully featured but compact kitchen, bathroom and dining space, Riviera Cabin contains everything needed for complete and complex living.

  • This is one of my favorites. The design truly makes the space look large, calm, and easy to live in. I think the layout of the apartment is top notch, also.

  • Beautiful, the wooden water line is really such a subtle touch that makes it look so special and feel so cozy. Wow, this is something special.

  • There’s also a strong accent of 60s. The same kind of taste in the colours and the modularity of plywood used in architectural dimension.

  • Yikes! It's so plain and simple. There's no character, no personality, no interesting textures, no "misbehaving forms" (like organic wood tables or cowhide rugs that are non-geometric). Also, why no art? This doesn't have many appealing elements, maybe it functions well but life is more than that. We need joy and visual playfulness in our homes. But these are just my suggestions, thinking about what might help enrich a space that seems pretty empty.

  • the layered bedrooms are absolutely genius! I was so shocked when I saw how specious the master bedroom is. It isn't like a cubicle, you can still effectively have a private space of your own sharing such a small flat wowwowow

  • This place has so much going for it. I would forego the sleeping loft in favor of a more reasonable bedroom and make the livingroom so it converts to a sleeping space.

  • I hate the slanted wooden walls in the master bed. If it was a straight wall they could of used all that vertical space. And then the overhead thingy above the bed. What's up with that??

  • I don't know but I would have preferred to keep the master bedroom area open. The two cabinet style doors were unnecessary. It would have made the apartment look more spacious with free flow of light and air. The bedroom looks like it's inside a closet. I felt claustrophobic just by looking at it.

  • 1 change - "windows" of slleping area. Instead of this clucky looking door-windows, why not wood curtain? Looks much better, takes less space, and also can open and close

  • One of the best ideas and house for family, very stylish and innovating. Two thing though. 1.If the bed in the lower bedroom was on the floor it could save space for the second's bedroom sealing. 2. The cabinet under the bed is unnecessary and makes me fell uncomfortable.
